In THE PROMISE I thought Claire Foy was the perfect Alice in Wonderland – an Alice fallen down a rabbit hole into a topsy-turvy world as unexpected as it was different to her own.
She explored that world perfectly, trying to make sense of it and – best of all – trying to make a difference. It was inevitable that she would annoy some and appreciated by others. But – like Alice! – she stuck to her guns and came out of it all in a heartbreaking scene on the plane home, when her ‘young’ Grandfather sat next to her, completing his diary as she was reading his last pages.
Beautifully acted throughout with another heartbreaking scene at the end when she was able to tell her Grandfather that she had made good his Promise.
Well done Claire. You deserve a BAFTA.
