“The Crown” – World Premiere

Starring Claire Foy as Elizabeth II, The Crown will look at each decade of our current Queen’s reign, and how her life intertwines with that of the political ruling class.

Ex-Dr Who star Matt Smith plays Prince Philip, and US comedy veteran John Lithgow appears as Winston Churchill, wearing prosthetics and heavy make up.

Each season of The Crown will explore a different decade of the Queen’s reign, looking at the political rivalries that defined the history of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, as well as the personal dramas going on behind the closed gates of the royal palaces.

Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning UK monarch, having sat on the throne for nearly 65 years (Queen Victoria almost made it to 64 years).

The Crown goes right back to the moment Elizabeth changed from a princess to a queen: the death of her beloved father, George VI, in 1953.

The 25-year-old Princess Elizabeth was in a Kenyan treehouse on holiday with her husband Prince Philip, when she received news of George’s death.

“It’s not just the story of a family, but the story of post-war Britain,” says Stephen Daldry.

“Are you my wife or my Queen?” Philip memorably asks Elizabeth in an early scene, before the boundaries between the private and the public have bee established.

On the other hand, with the sympathetic wisdom born of age, Churchill says to Elizabeth, “Never let them see that carrying the crown is often a burden.”

Luminous – BFI gala Dinner And Auction

In keeping with the theme of the evening the BBC Little Dorrit actress Claire Foy looked the epitome of luminous as she sashayed down the red carpet towards No 8 Northumberland Avenue. She shone in a black-and-white dress.

The inaugural Fundraising Gala, which includes dinner and an auction, celebrates British film and British film talent and is held to raise vital funds to secure the future of the BFI National Archive.

Guests were able to auction on a number of exciting auction prizes including the Formula 1 replica car from current hit film Rush, John Travolta’s suit (signed) he wore in Face/Off and original signed stills from Sam Taylor Wood’s I Love You More and Isaac Julien’s Mazu, Turning.

CLAIRE FOY: ANATOMY OF MY OUTFIT

CLAIRE FOY: ANATOMY OF MY OUTFIT

We caught up with the star of Little Dorrit and Upstairs Downstairs at a tea party held at the Kate Spade New York boutique in Chelsea to celebrate the Chelsea Flower Show.

The 29-year-old actress is currently filming Vampire Academy with Olga Kurylenko and Gabriel Byrne.

‘It takes me about five hours to get ready,’ she told us. ‘I’m not very good at it – I spend a lot of time standing and staring at my wardrobe and not achieving much.

‘Then I suddenly think of something I want to wear only to discover it’s in the wash’

Jewellery I wear this Monica Vinader necklace every day. It was a gift from the producers when I did Macbeth with James McAvoy at London’s Trafalgar Studios. I love all of Monica’s designs and they make perfect presents. My bracelet is from Cos. I’m loving fluoro accessories for summer.

T-shirt This is from Asos – I’m a big fan of online shopping. I’m not sure why I chose this, but I do love Paris so I guess it makes sense.

Clutch bag I love the colour of this Kate Spade New York bag – everything this label does adds an instant injection of fun and style to your outfit. I want it all!

Trousers These cost me £10 in the Whistles sale about nine million years ago when I had an office job and needed to look smart every day. They are such a great fit and I’ve bought Whistles trousers ever since.

Shoes I call these leopard-print numbers my emergency shoes. I panic-bought them before I went to an awards do. They are by Mulberry and they weren’t cheap. But I now wear them whenever I have to dress up for something, so it makes it OK.

‘Chimerica’ – After Party

Headlong’s world premiere of Lucy Kirkwood’s Chimerica opened at the Almeida Theatre last night (28 May 2013).

The play follows the aftermath of the famous 1989 Tiananmen Square photo, centring on the American journalist who took the photo, who more than 20 years later begins to question the fate of the unknown protester in his shot.

This investigation leads to a deep examination that explores the relationship between China and America, and the influences each country has on the other.

The production is directed by Lyndsey Turner and runs until 6 July 2013.

Claire Foy at the Olivier Awards

Macbeth‘ finished its eighty day run last Saturday. The production was a phenomenal success, was entirely sold out and surprisingly received two nominations at this year’s Olivier Awards (instead of next year’s): for Best Revival and James McAvoy for Best Actor. The Olivier Awards were held yesterday at the Royal Opera House in London and sadly the Olivier Award in the two categories didn’t go to ‘Macbeth‘ but to ‘Long Day’s Journey Into Night‘ and Luke Treadaway respectively.

Claire Foy attended the event and looked absolutely gorgeous wearing a strapless 1958 Hartnell black silk and velvet gown by William Vintage.

I added a few pictures, some of them in high quality. Enjoy!
