Claire Foy is featured alongside Olivia Grant and Bonnie Wright in the March 2010 issue of InStyle UK. The photo is brand new and absolutely lovely.

Claire Foy

You might recognise her from: Little Dorrit.
What’s next? Going Postal, Season of the Witch, Homeland.
Stellar moment: “A highlight of 2009 for me was working on Season of the Witch with Nicolas Cage — he’s eccentric but also such a lovely, genuine man. I’m gutted that I’ll be working and won’t be able to go to the premiere.”

BBC3 gets horror fans’ pulses racing

Posted by Anna with 1 Comment

Fans of the horror genre will be pleased to know that BBC3 looks set to give them something scary to enjoy in the dark winter weeks ahead.

At today’s Winter/Spring BBC3 launch, BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson assured me that, as a big fan of horror, I am going to like Pulse, which is written by Doctor Who writer Paul Cornell and stars Claire Foy, who previously starred in Little Dorrit for the BBC.

Pulse, according to the BBC’s blurb, is set in a teaching hospital, which is home to some of the UK’s most promising trainee doctors:

But beneath its veneer of medical normality lies a secret network of dangerous experiments, pushing back the boundaries of science with potentially horrifying consequences

Now, I was a big fan of E4’s Dead Set, which, for a TV series, managed to be pretty gruesome and dark, and really provided for those who like their series a little more on the edgy side.

So I can only hope that BBC3 follows Dead Set’s lead to make sure that Pulse does something similar, and gives horror fans, who I often think are under-served by British television, something to get their teeth stuck in to.

The drama is planned as a one-off at the moment, and will run alongside two other pilots commissioned by BBC3, including a drama called Dappers from Mamma Mia! writer Catherine Johnson, and another from Leo Richardson called Stanley Park.

Neither of these is a horror (although Dappers is about two two single mothers living in Bristol — which sounds scary in itself) and I can only hope that that Pulse proves to be a hit, and that the BBC commission it for a full series.

Foy has already proved herself to be a good actress, so I am sure there will be an appetite among viewers to see more of her, if not more blood and gore.

Smell My Fleece by Anna Towers, read by Claire Foy

With four fewer teeth and a mouth stuffed with cotton wool, Debra isn’t having the easiest of days. And then she meets Dale. A curious tale of dentistry, stalking and poetry.

Apparently, the recording will be available on the BBC Radio 4 Website for 7 days afterwards.

On Monday 28th December 2009, Sky One aired the 8th Episode of 10 Minute Tales, Through The Window, written and directed by Barry Skolnick.

Synopsis:
Lee Ingleby is The Man, and Claire Foy is The Woman. This poignant period piece reminds viewers that though loved ones can be lost, they can never be forgotten. A young soldier, who has been away at war, returns to find that his lover has been killed in the Blitz. Miraculously, their child managed to survive the deadly blast. Posted by Anna with No Comments

Next year promises a varied crop of original horror films. Among them? Season of the Witch starring Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman and Claire Foy (look for an appearance by Christopher Lee, too!). Bragi Schut’s screenplay was widely sought after many years back, now it’s finally reaching the big screen on March 19 from Lionsgate and under the direction of Dominic Sena.

You may have seen the teaser trailer and trailer which premiered within the last two months. Shock Till You Drop is now happy to give you an exclusive first look at the one-sheet.

Final Synopsis for Season of the Witch

Posted by Anna with No Comments

Lionsgate’s supernatural thriller Season of the Witch stars Nicolas Cage as medieval knight Behmen, who undertakes a mission pitting him against a devious witch and making him the last hope for the world against an ancient and dark force. His faith broken by years of battle as a crusader, Behmen returns to central Europe to find his homeland decimated by the Black Plague. While searching for food and supplies at the Palace at Marburg, Behmen and his trusted companion, Felson (Ron Perlman), are apprehended and ordered by the dying Cardinal to deliver a young peasant girl believed to be the witch responsible for the Plague to a remote abbey where her powers can be destroyed. Behmen agrees to the assignment but only if the peasant girl is granted a fair trial. As he and five others set off on this dangerous journey, they realize with mounting dread that the cunning girl is no ordinary human and that their mission will pit them against an evil that even in these dark times they never could have imagined.
